Love, laughter & neuroscience: Why relationships matter in the development of speech and language

Limited tickets available – book yours now!

Wednesday 23 September, 10am–4pmĀ

Speech, language and communication in our youngest children has never been more in focus, with a recent report estimating that 25% of Scottish children have a predicted speech, language and communication need (at the age of 4 years), rising to 40% in some areas of social deprivation.
Ā
Join Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, well known research scientist, founder of Connected Baby and passionate campaigner for boosting children’s resilience through emotional connection, for an interactive workshop session, exploring the role of attachment in speech and language development. Ā Why are secure relationships so significant in providing a foundation for young children's confidence to communicate, explore, and learn? Ā That’s the question we’ll address throughout the day.
Ā
This workshop will help you to understand why everyday, small interactions with babies build language skills and to discover how listening, turn-taking, eye contact, and responsive conversations support speech and language outcomes for babies and young children.

More about the speaker

Dr Suzanne Zeedyk is a research scientist fascinated by babies’ innate capacity to connect.
Since 1993, she has been based at the University of Dundee’s School of Psychology, where she still holds an honorary post.
In 2011, she established an independent consultancy that enabled her to work more closely with the public. Suzanne now spends her time speaking with organisations throughout the UK and internationally who are keen to explore how they can foster connection, compassion and resilience.
Suzanne is delighted with the growing cultural awareness of relationships, and she believes such commitment is needed even more strongly as we recover from the impacts of the pandemic.
